The Story
The chain began in Portland in 1969, when Guss Dussin bet that generous pasta in an antique-stuffed room would beat fashionable minimalism — a bet the brand has been winning ever since. The Edmonton downtown location has a twist: it’s one of the few franchise-owned rooms in the family, which gives the local operators unusual freedom to experiment while keeping the beloved formula intact.
What to Order
The cult order is the spaghetti with browned butter and mizithra cheese — nutty, salty, deceptively simple. The chicken pesto has its loyalists and the bam bam shrimp starter earned crowd-favourite status. Every entrée arrives as a complete meal: hot sourdough bread, minestrone or crisp salad to start, spumoni ice cream and coffee or tea to finish — a full arc of dinner without a single decision fatigue moment.
