JOEY Mayfield installs one anyway — along with sprawling chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling drapery — and in doing so gives Edmonton’s west end its most theatrical night out. The Story

The Fuller family has been feeding Western Canada since the days when Leroy “Bus” Fuller ran one of the country’s original A&W franchises; his son Jeff turned that restaurant instinct into JOEY, launched in Calgary in 1992 and grown into a continent-spanning premium-casual brand. Mayfield is its west-Edmonton outpost — same globally inspired kitchen, dialled-up decor.

What to Order

Regulars swear the sushi here is among the best in the city — start with a roll or two, add the crispy prawns, and let the bar build something cold and complicated while you decide between a burger done properly and a full steak dinner. Happy-hour grazing in the lounge is a west-end ritual; the dessert list exists for people who claim they’re done and aren’t.
